The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace freed from captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing, so is the boy she hates: her brother Sebastian, who is determined to bring the Shadowhunters to their knees. The Clave's magic cannot locate either boy, but Jace can't stay away from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith's magic has wrought - Jace and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other.Only a few people believe that Jace can still be saved. Together, Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle bargain with the sinister Seelie Queen, contemplate deals with demons, and turn at last to the merciless, weapon-making Iron Sisters, who might be able to forge a weapon that can sever the bond between Sebastian and Jace. If the Iron Sisters can't help, their only hope is to challenge Heaven and Hell - a risk that could claim their lives. And they must do it without Clary. For Clary is playing a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing not just her own life, but Jace's soul. She's willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost? What price is too high to pay, even for love? Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.
City of Lost Souls; the fifth book in The Mortal Instruments series, was an intense and gripping book. I found this book to be the most addictive book in the series so far!

With each book readers have been able to witness Cassandra Clare’s writing and world grow. I found that I enjoyed Clare’s writing the most in this book, with this matured writing style came even greater addictions to the already complex world she has built. At times I would find myself a little confused as to what was going on with all the terminology, but it wasn’t long before I was able to immerse myself in the amazing world once again and thoroughly enjoy it.

The books starts off from Simon’s point of view and that to me; reiterated the fact that these are supposedly “Simon’s books”, not that I am the world’s greatest fan of the guy, but since reading City of Fallen Angels I find myself liking him more and more.

This book follows different stories in a way, yet all the stories were interwoven in such a manner that it was clear for me as the reader that this all built up the larger storyline. Of course the characters do interact with each other, as usual! I was extremely happy that Alec was one of the points of view we got to read from, he had a little bit more say in this book.

It was awesome meeting several new characters and thinking about all of these theories I have about how the characters from The Infernal Devices are linked to those of The Mortal Instruments. It was great to read about eh Iron Sisters. In this book Heavenly Fire is mentioned, which got me even more excited to read the final instalment of the series; City of Heavenly Fire.

This book has many interesting twists and turn that readers will be shocked by. One of Clare’s best works to date, in my opinion. If you are looking for an intense and addictive book, please pick up City of Lost Souls.

  3. Awesome review, and my gosh...I thought City of Glass was addicting, but if it's more addictive than the previous ones... O_O Good to hear that even though it may have been a bit confusing, you still found your way through it. Still on the 4th book myself, but your review's definitely making me want to read this one super soon! >_<

  4. This is one of my favorite series, along with The Infernal Devices. I am in love with it. I had never heard of these books being Simon's books. Interesting. I did hear that the third book was supposed to end one series and these two start another, but I feel they continue.
